This is a highly readable and deeply engaged examination of the culture of capitalism in the contemporary United States. It is an ethnography, based on countless hours of personal observation in several hundred Starbucks outlets in ten countries, as well as dozens of interviews with the company's customers and employees; Bryant Simon had less luck in getting responses from the company's management.
