Hello there my spiritual friend,
I feel it is time, once again to address contemplation.
Now as to the concept of a ladder of ascent, or migration, it is based on the migration of Psalms 120-134. Real or imagined, Climacus, Bernard, Bruno, Ignatius, Bellarmine and a host of others draw their inspiration from this outline.
Now as to changes or progression upwards, I recently read something regarding early mysticism, as to the difference between station and state.
Station is what we can bring ourselves to via effort, whiles a state, is when we are permitted, by the God to experience something, which transcends us.
Station: This may be seen as a place we have arrived in our quest, through various combinations of effort, resolve, and other forms of self-discipline. These are gained, here one, who possesses is secure.
State: These are given. This is because the experience or state of consciousness is afforded each individual, as they are ready for it. Just because one is of age, does not mean they are mature or physically able to accept the position. This comes from within. Moreover, one in this arena may be brought into and removed from without their consent, resistance is futile.
Thus enlightening us.
In short we are where we are because of ourselves, what we can grasp is based on how open we are, what we are in need of. You see, in a state, there are both restrictions and constrictions. However, know that the station is a placement according to refinement.
