Faith & Reason

These items, so coupled, are indeed a "dubious duo", and yet, individuals of all walks of faith, and a varietal belief, agree that there is a harmonious balance between the two.

If this is true, then how? In what way, or what are the specifics of this arrangement?

Does faith fill in the empty gaps of reason or does reason defend one's ineptness of obscured faith to act as a press agent on one's behalf?

The late Pope, J.P. II, in his letter "Fides et Ratio" or "Faith and Reason"

The late Pope asserts that they are as two wings, which ushers one up and into contemplation.

I contend that faith acts as a tunnel of sorts, which encapsulates us as we migrate through what is unknown and reason is the propellant as we veer ever towards our intended object.

Better stated, "Faith" is a mode of movement.

Reason causes one to seek and accumulate understanding.

In his letter, item #14:

" Yet this knowledge refers back constantly to the mystery of God which the human mind cannot exhaust but can only receive and embrace in faith. Between these two poles, reason has its own specific field in which it can enquire and understand, restricted only by its finiteness before the infinite mystery of God."

This is an understatement, acting as a ‘catch net' for the performers up on the high-wire. It is indeed quite true that we have a finite understanding of things. This is self-evident as we come to see and discover, what has always been there. 

The honest responsorial of the great minds of science, all acknowledge this, with the words: "We have uncovered, discovered or made a break thru."

Reason, to be valid, must be supported by a four-fold support structure, (context, historical, anthropological, philosophical), so as not to be a mere seat for one to rest their laurels, but as a stoop by which one ascends.

Earlier, I stated that reason propels one's faith, yet what propels reason?

I say reason propels us thru faith, for it is by or in reasons that we express our purpose for our faith in what ever the object is.

Now if we merely have reasons for the things we do, can this be without belief or faith?

For and end?  For a purpose? 

Is there no belief that there will be an outcome, if we do this?
