I was raised in the suburbs of Kansas City (on the Kansas side) and went to college at the University of Kansas. Afterwards I got my MFA from the University of Iowa, and spent several years teaching high school and college English in Boston. In 2005 I returned to the midwest to teach at Missouri State University, where I'm now an assistant professor in creative writing. In May of 2007 I got married to Pam, a psychologist, and part-time creator of author photos. My two novels are The Cuban Prospect, published by the Overlook Press in 2003, and Aftermath, published by Nan A. Talese/Doubleday in 2006. I'm currently working on a novel that I hope to finish in the spring of '08.
