The Value of Literature

I've been thinking again (I do that once in a while)...literature, i.e., novels, short stories, poetry, memoirs, essays, et. al., shouldn't be consumable products, something you read and throw away. They should be read, thought about, saved, cherished. If you pick up a publication and it's not worth that, drop it and go on.
