McCarthy — who got word he was being fired from his 31-year post as film critic at the trade paper Daily Variety the day after the Oscars — won't be unemployed for long. He has written books, directed documentaries, and could teach or run a film festival if he so chose. He is well-liked and greatly respected (deservedly so on both counts) in the journalistic and movie communities.
