Heinlein graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in the 1920s and served briefly in the Navy.
From that service he developed a concern regarding the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and was active in pushing limits to these weapons.
Two of his books, "Stranger in a Strange Land," and "Starship Troopers," are among the canon of science fiction novels.
