It's Labor Day - - and what more fitting thing for a day away from the world than a game. Or a puzzle. Or a contest:
I remember a professor of non-fiction saying a couple of years ago that he hated the moniker of that creative writing genre. "Non-fiction," he groused, "is what it's not - not what it is."
Okay - your mission, should you decide to accept it - is to NAME THAT GENRE!
It's not a trick question, and so far there's no good name for what "it" is.
Just to get your think-buds blooming, here is some of what non-fiction is generally assumed to encompass:
- "creative non-fiction"
- technical writing
- travel writing
- literary criticism
- sports writing
Okay, you're right, there may be more categories - and some of these fold into one another. But don't quibble over that - just name it!
If I get some REALLY good entries, I'll pick a winner and forward it to N-F professors I know - with the name of the winner. Besides that, the winner will get the coveted pat-on-the-back award from yours truly.
