Cormac and Oprah - One on One
Blog Post by Bob Mustin - Jan.04.2012 - 7:29 pm
Here's a brief (5 min.) interview with arguably the U.S.'s most important novelist of the last quarter century - and a Southern one to boot.
It's always interesting to see interviews with writers. Some are made for sound bites and interviews;others, like McCarthy, seem a little out of their comfort zone. Introspection, and living in fiction's alternate worlds, I guess.

McCarthy Interview
Bob - Thanks for the link to the McCarthy interview. Interesting in a number of ways, not so much the content as the fact of it. I agree that McCarthy looks a bit uncomfortable. I wonder if the discomfort is the product of what he has agreed to do (the interview) straining against his tolerance for this sort of thing. I might confess, this was the first time I’ve ever seen Oprah. (I stopped watching TV around 1970.) It probably isn’t fair to expect five minutes with McCarthy to reveal the reasons for her popularity. She seems comfortable enough asking standard, tepid interview questions. I was curious about the interview taking place at the Santa Fe Institute. (I’m an admirer of Stuart Kauffman) I’ll have to look into the connection between McCarthy and the Institute, if there is one. Anyway, thanks again.
One Thing...
...I noticed from Oprah: She at first seemed a little defensive about the interview. I guess she's gotten a bit gun-shy with authors and didn't know what to expect from McCarthy. And thanks for the comment.
