2012 Book Critics Circle Finalists
Blog Post by Bob Mustin - Jan.15.2013 - 8:15 am
These nominees have just been announced (see link below), and I find I haven't read any of them. These two interest me, just based on title and cover art. That should tell you a lot about the value of the front cover in the sharp-elbowed world of books.

Long Halftime Walk came highly recommended to us so we picked it up. Loaned it to a neighbor who raved about it, deeming it great satire. Wife read it and thought it was a good read but not brilliant - certainly not Catch 22, as some would say. Now it's in my hands, where it started.
Thanks for the post. Cheers
I just read
David Abrams' book, Fobbit, about the Ira war. It has been touted as another Catch-22, also, and while it's a fine book, it doesn't have quite the satirical edge that Heller's book has.
Maybe that's because the combatants aren't as colorful as Yossarian et al, or maybe because the volunteer aspect of the war took some of the edge off.
Thanks for the post, Michael - always enjoy hearing from you.
