On Pidgeon Brains
Blog Post by Bob Hinrichs - Apr.10.2008 - 8:56 am
So now we know that pidgeons can distinguish between picasso and monet, by the mere style of the artwork. Does this mean 1) that we are not as bright as we thought, 2) pidgeons are much brighter than we thought, or 3) that some of the mental abilities we consider to be among the best our large brain can offer (over the pea-sized brain of a bird) are nothing at all, and we really need to explore our abilities much further? Perhaps some combination of these, but I am sure if it is number 3 that the dolphins are wondering why we are wasting our potential.
