Upon returning to the One Minute Writer blog after a two week stall, I discovered I was a winner! Two of my entries won the "Writing of the Day" and one of those winning entries was chosen for the "Writing of the Week". How fun!
Due to multiple circumstances, I had not been visiting the One Minute Writer the past couple of weeks. I found myself missing that daily dose of writing. Although the dose is tiny, it gets my fingers moving and my brain creating. It spurs me to move forward and write for writing's sake. It doesn't matter if it's "good" or if it's "bad," it's writing. And writing is what a writer should do. Missing it makes me know I truly am a writer at heart.
One of my students told me that he needed to find "__[Name]__ the Author" once again. I loved that phrase! And I agreed with him. I need to find Beverley the Author once again. Just keep writing. Write for writing's sake. Even if it's just a one minute blog a day.
My winning entries are below. So simple, and yet someone noticed them. Since I am my own worst critic (as most people are), it felt good for someone to say, "I like this!"
One-Minute Writing of the Day: Prompt - Water; write about a childhood memory that involves water. (This entry also won Writing of the Week)
The ocean crashes onto the shore. Waves tumbling and roaring....but beyond the crashing waves I bob in the swells. The water, up to my chin, gently rocking me. Softly my toes touch the sandy bottom...bounce, bounce as the seaweed swishes around me. Gently bounce.
Congratulations on the win, beverleym! Your response was so peaceful that I sighed contentedly when I finished reading it.
One-Minute Writing of the Day: Prompt - Revision is important for writers, but sometimes we wish we could revise real life. Thing of something that you did recently and how you'd like to revise it.
Revise the moment I told my mom I couldn't eat the cake she'd made me with love and joy in her heart.
Revision: "Thank you, Mom! My favorite! What an awesome thought." Then take the cake to school for the students to enjoy, me staying true to my diet and my mom feeling the joy of giving me something.
Congratulations on another win, beverleym! I think your hindsight shows your sensitivity. I'm sure your mom appreciates that!
