I have discovered, and love, the One-Minute Writer! It's a writing prompt blog that has a one word prompt everyday. I've been trying to take my one minute each and every day to write. I'm amazed, and surprised at times, what can come out in a minute. Please go check out The One-Minute Writer at http://oneminutewriter.blogspot.com.
Here's a sampling of some of my entries the past couple of weeks -
March 11, 2011 - Prompt: Spotlight
Standing in the spotlight I feel exposed. Can everyone see the insides of me? The truth is revealed as I stand motionless. Paralyzed by fear. There is no hiding in the spotlight. All the world sees as I freeze on the spot. No where to run. No where to hide.
March 15, 2011 - Prompt: Water (childhood memory of water)
The ocean crashes onto the shore. Waves tumbling and roaring....but beyond the crashing waves I bob in the swells. The water, up to my chin, gently rocking me. Softly my toes touch the sandy bottom...bounce, bounce as the seaweed swishes around me. Gently bounce.
March 17, 2011 Prompt: Skywriter
Skywriter writing, twirling, twisting....what does it say?
"Will you marry me?...you know who you are! Check yes or no..."
The girl on the beach falls to her knees and marks an X in the sand...
March 19, 2011 Prompt: Revise (Think of something that you did recently and how you'd like to revise it.)
Revise the moment I told my mom I couldn't eat the cake she'd made me with love and joy in her heart.
Revision: "Thank you, Mom! My favorite! What an awesome thought." Then take the cake to school for the students to enjoy, me staying true to my diet and my mom feeling the joy of giving me something.
March 20, 2011 Prompt: Self-portrait
A brightly colored painting shows a stack of novels and cookbooks piled askew on the edge of the counter. Coffee cup within easy reach, one hand busily types on her laptop, adding to the story she's writing. The other hand flips the chicken in the skillet and adds just a pinch of garlic. Her eyes are on the book propped against the unopened wine bottle. She can't wait to find out what happens next!
