Strange day: crisply blue this morning, now cloud cover and this feeling of something waiting to happen. Maybe a storm, it's muggy, air too still.
Egypt--what is there to say? I lived through a revolution in West Africa once. Hitching rides and not knowing which side was which, the subterfuges drivers used to ease through partisan checkpoints (palm fronds on the windshield, police id on the visor, to flip up or down as needed). The broken statues, the jubilation... .
CNN is loving it. Their lyricism is way over the top. Egypt in Crisis! Warring factions! It's Iraq war hype all over again.
Funny thing about time. It hits me on the treadmill at the gym. No matter how much or how little effort you put into it, cranking up the settings, the seconds tick away at the same pace. There's nothing you can do to alter that.
Sunset. Street lights on. Windows of parked cars shine, including the one that looks like a chunk of the Pompidou Centre: inside-out, all steel tubes, dull grey, kinked like digestive tract, some kind of solar power experiment.
It seems there may yet be another planet we can live on.
