I started my writing career in the 1980's by reading my commentaries on NPR's All Things Considered and have been writing ever since. I am currently a weekly columnist for The Huntsville Times, my hometown paper in Alabama. My subject matter is broad - travel, family, women's issues and the stories people tell me. My first published essay was People Tell Me Things. I just retired from teaching English at a two year college, and have worked with students from New Hope, Alabama to New Delhi, India. I live in the hills of North Alabama with my caterer husband of four decades. He provides me food on the table and food for thought. I am working on a collection of essays about women who have influenced my life.
My work has appeared in the New York Times, Southern Living, Atlanta Magazine, Republic Airlines Magazine, Alabama Magazine, Hometown Press Magazine, and other publications. My commentaries are aired on local public radio, WLRH.
Interviewing interesting people, reading women's fiction and memoirs, traveling (beaches, mountains, France, Ireland), exercise and yoga.
