Bess gives an overview of the book:

Hailey Saunders accompanies her beloved matchmaking sister, Megan, on a cruise to the beautiful and exotic Caribbean...something she’s avoided for a long time...ever since her young husband, Zach, was lost off a fishing trawler in the Bering Sea during a storm. At first, Hailey cried daily for months, then weekly for a year, but now she doesn’t cry at all. Why? Because Zach returned to her...or at least, his ghost did. His voice remains her constant companion, allowing her to avoid the pain of real life...of falling in love with someone else. A flirtatious but ineligible Scots ship's officer, Alan Campbell, has his eye on Hailey as does the handsome and mysterious European, Karl de Groot. Megan is ready to make a match for her sister, but Zach finds it hard to let his wife go...or is it Hailey who refuses to say goodbye? Three men want her...only one can have her!

De Groot! Bitter bile rose in Alan’s throat as he

stared at the man he detested more than any other on earth. He watched the exchange between Hailey and de Groot with a clenched jaw. What was he doing over there? What were the odds he’d be assigned to her table?

Alan willed himself to calm down. He studied the interaction between Hailey and de Groot with a cynical eye. De Groot was obviously flirting. Alan had seen him in action many times before. He fought the urge to approach the table and break it up. He couldn’t do it...not on the job. He urged himself to walk away. He did not need this trouble again.

De Groot continued to lean in to talk to Hailey. It was unclear from this distance if she responded or not. Alan fervently hoped not. Her cheeks appeared rosy, but he remembered from meeting her today that she blushed often...in the most charming way.

She was carrying a burden, that one. A sadness clouded those eyes. But when she smiled, the whole room seemed to light up. Her eyes glowed. He would hate to see her get hurt. Alan tore his gaze away from the disturbing sight and turned to leave. He threw a last glance over his shoulder before he passed through the doors and paused. Hailey’s eyes followed him. Oh dear, she had seen him after all. He fervently hoped she hadn’t noticed him gawking at her.

Alan nodded in her direction. He couldn’t hold back the smile that spread across his face. The room paled beside her. She was stunning, and she returned his smile, a lovely tilt of her lips. He raised a hand in brief greeting and briskly strode out the door without looking back, unable to trust himself to do the right thing.

Determined to keep de Groot from taking advantage of Hailey, he wondered just how he was going to manage to accomplish that.
