Why Should I Want to Know You
By Bernadette A. Moyer
An actress auditioning for a part was asked, “Why should I want to know you?”
When I heard this I immediately thought, wow! What a great question, imagine if every person who crossed our path we asked ourselves, “Why should I want to know you?”
For most of my professional life I was in sales and marketing both in for profit and the not for profit arena. That meant selling me as the point person along with whatever product I was representing. It could have been when I was selling houses as a Realtor or asking for donations for youth groups, children’s causes and to feed the poor. I was always programmed to look at the world through the scope of why you would want to know me and to do business with me.
One of the neat things about getting older is you do become more select with where and who and what you spend your time on. You become acutely aware that its one life with a numbered amount of days. How do you want to spend your days and who do you want to share time with seem to be the more relevant questions as we age.
I think I will have to try this paradigm shift, moving away from why you might want to know me to why should I want to know you? It already sounds so empowering …
So … why should I want to know you…?
