We Begin Again
By Bernadette A. Moyer
Every day and every year is an opportunity to begin again. With each New Year we are afforded the opportunity for renewal. Years ago a friend said, “It is not over until we take our last breathe.” A new year is but days away and we can start fresh. We can make this our year and we can do what we want to do and accomplish much before it becomes too late and we do take our last breathe.
Resolutions are something that many people ponder as the ringing out of the old year and ringing in the new year begins. We have our list or at least our thoughts on what can and should be different as we start another calendar year. Surely it is a time of inventory, and a chance to take stock on where we are headed and if in fact we are moving in the right direction. Each year is a chance to seek out the things that will bring us a sense of accomplishment and joy. What can we do? What do we want to do? Do we have a “bucket list” or goals yet to be attained? In this moment, is our life going the way that we want it to go? If so, how can we make it even better? If not, what needs to happen to create the necessary changes?
I enjoy the abundance of Christmas and all the good cheer but I also enjoy the clearing out and making way for all that is new. We can clean out our closets, give old clothes away and replace them with new ones. We clean out our high calorie Christmas refrigerator contents replacing it with healthier choices. Personally I like to take a good hard look at myself, what do I still want to do with my life? Are there things standing in my way and have I set myself up for success in being well supported? What can I do to help ensure that I meet my goals? What am I willing to let go of so that I can be afforded the opportunity to make the necessary changes? Where do I want to grow?
What is it, if anything that I am holding onto and why? Am I afraid? Am I too comfortable and unwilling to risk change? I am a firm believer in, “If you can dream it, you can do it!” Whatever “it” is!
Every New Year is a new chance, an opportunity for a fresh new start. It is the chance to begin again. If 2012 was your year, great, now how can you make 2013 even better? If 2012 wasn’t your year, what needs to happen to make it better and your year?
Change is exciting, it brings new opportunities for learning and growth and it teaches us that we can accomplish many things and it also helps build our confidence. 2012 was a pretty good year for me and I just have this feeling 2013 is going to be even better. We don’t have a crystal ball and we can’t see into the future but what we can do is make our list, prepare ourselves, when opportunities present themselves, be ready and embrace all that is ahead with a positive attitude.
Life is good! Many blessings for a very Happy Healthy Wealthy New Year! May 2013 be your best year ever!
