Become a Fan!
By Bernadette A. Moyer
Be a fan! Support your favorite baseball team, football team, musical group, theater, the arts, an author; just about anyone that is doing work that you can appreciate is worthy of your support. Get behind someone or something that makes you feel good about supporting them and also lifts you and them up.
My husband is one of the best fans! He loves the Baltimore Orioles and in his words, “a true fan is one who supports you whether you are winning or losing.” I just love that! Let’s face it, it is really easy to get behind and stay behind a “winning” team. But a true fan is the one who stay with you during the high times and the not so high times.
Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a huge fan of Country Music Artist, Gary Allan. This summer we will attend yet another one of his fan club parties in Nashville, Tennessee. I can honestly say that I am a “true fan.” Gary has his share of success but it has been quite a few years since his last #1 hit. We have supported him during the ups and downs of his musical career. We attend live shows, buy his merchandise and his music. On more than a handful of occasions we met him personally at either a "meet and greet" or during his fan club parties.
Just recently the single Every Storm from the Set You Free album became another number 1 hit song for Gary Allan. There is no question that his band and Gary are all enjoying a recent high. I can’t wait to attend the fan club party this year and celebrate their most recent success.
But you don’t have to be a baseball player or a musician to have “fans.” A fan is a supporter, someone who appreciates what you do and follows you.
We can all be a fan and we can all have fans. Lift someone else up and be a blessing in someone else’s life. Promote the good works of others, become a connector and bring people together. If you like an artist’s works, their painting, tell them and support them. Meet writers and authors at book festivals and connect one on one with people that are aligned with you and what you like and can appreciate.
And if you are fortunate enough to have a few fans, let them know that you appreciate them too. We weren’t put here on this earth to hurt and destroy each other, we were put here to love and to appreciate one another. What better way to show our appreciation for someone else but by becoming a fan of their gifts and talents and showing them our support.
Take what you like and leave the rest behind. Not everything is meant for everyone. But when you do come across something or someone that speaks to you, let them know it. Be a fan and become a supporter and enjoy knowing that you are a part of something that is more and bigger than just yourself.
