This is a photo of part of the land-side moat that was filled with the Adriatic Sea protecting Dubrovnik for a thousand years against foreign invaders. The moat, now used as a road, is an ironic icon. The moat was originally used against invaders, and now because of the Global Economy it welcomes international tourists.
This special photo represents a time (June 1976) of dire communistic rule in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It was the herald spot where I privately met with a dozen Croatian teenagers to discuss the eventual death of communism and the creation of democracy in a country historically torn apart by political and religious wars.
