The Struggle of Power and the Fight for Survival is my second book of poetry and it is about man’s desire to survive and in some cases to have power to take different directions in life and our societies. In this book, I talk about themes that affect us all from one way or the other: Financial crisis, corruption, dictatorship, religious fundamentalism, terrorism, farm killings in Zimbabwe and South Africa, hope for mankind and the legacy we want to leave behind.
Power and surivival
Through our history, we have in some ways found ways to fight for survival because without survival, we feel worthless, devalued, humiliated, and degraded etc. Power manifests in different ways and sometimes, it can be destructive when you abuse it. It is good to have the power to change things in our lives and make difference, which will benefit ourselves, others and our societies. The power to express yourself freely is also important because freedom of speech is one of the most important values in our lives. Power is dangerous, when many criminal organizations, secret services, dictators, terrorists and extreme religious leaders are so insecure in their lives that they feel that someone has to be hurt for their survival. The question to you and me is we have a power to survive in a way that can influence others in a way that can be beneficial.
We live in a world, where criticizing religion has become a serious crime. We seem to forget that criticizing a religion like Islam for example is not a racist thing, but many people who share this belief don’t think this way. Many Muslims extremists respond with violence, which in my opinion is not good for society. Freedom of speech is something which cannot be negotiable and I am not trying to be rough here. All religions must be criticized and it is not a cynical campaign to do so. In the book, I talk about my lack of belief in a supreme being and how religion seeks respects, but give none and I talk about how condescending religion can be to mankind. It does not want us to like ourselves. It survival depends on keep us from facts.
Financial crisis The reasons behind the financial crisis we are facing these days, it is because of greed and the desire for more, while those who suffer more get ignored. Corruption is a big problem when you see people like Mardorff promoting something, which they cannot deliver.
African dictators African dictators are the most incompetent state leaders in the world, in my opinion. Since many African countries have gotten their independence from their former colonies, they have been unable to reach out to their people, but themselves. They build villas and have huge account in fiscal paradises, while millions of people are living for less than a dollar or two, a day. Many Africans play the blame game, instead of taking responsibly so that their countries can make progress. In South Africa, lots of farmers get killed by people whose ideology is crime and violence.
Hope I talk about hopes for mankind because it is important to hope for something good in the future. However, I believe hope comes with action and hard work. When we choose to have the power to lift ourselves and others up, we can change ourselves, our lives and our societies and the next generation will benefit from our legacy.
