I've just finished up the Lady Churchill's compilation. I was impressed, it seems to be the sort of place one lands before one goes on to publish Swamplandia! or Magic for Beginners. In other words, it's the sort of place a writer goes to get published immediately before they write a breakout book. I particularly enjoyed the Easter Egg like quality where quips and notes pepper the spaces between contributor bios and the sneaky bits only die-hard readers find (the very back, the introduction).
I'm happy that this publication exists. It's on par with larger (think better-funded) zines and mags which are first stops for new talented writers. It's hard work, diamond mining, but I feel Kelly Link & Gavin J. Grant of Small Beer Press do it with style.
As far as a tea pairing goes, well there's rather an impressive list of teas in the book to choose from as well as a list of "Hope in the form of Planted Tomatoes" with names like "Prosperity."
I'm going to confess something rather mad here. I keep meaning to drop Kelly Link a line to try and entice her to collaborate on a Kickstarter Project: Choose Your Own Adventure Zombie Love Edition, but we don't know each other and it seems a bit forward. I'm open to suggestions, dear readers.
Every kindness,
Asha Vose
