On man's planetary playground, there are 1,589,361 known species: homo sapiens are only one of 5,416 species of mammals belonging to one of the smallest groups of vertebrates. Our other neighbors live on Earth at our comfort, on our terms, for our pleasure, entertainment, sport, nourishment, industries, and research, and rely on us for their protection or extinction. Our other neighbors, what would they say to us, if they communicated in a language we truly understood? I wonder what they tell one another about their humanoid neighbors. . . .
