OPENING SEQUENCE: An extravagant party in full swing. Everybody drinks too much champagne and passes out.
SCENE ONE: Nick Carraway visits Tom and Daisy Buchanan at the Buchanan’s mansion on Long Island. They have lunch and take siestas, then go to Manhattan for a party. They drink too much champagne and pass out in a hotel room. The housekeeper comes in and tells them all to get the hell out so she can clean the room.
SCENE TWO: Jay Gatsby throws an extravagant party at his mansion on Long Island, across the bay from the Buchanans. Everybody drinks too much champagne. People pass out.
SCENE THREE: Jay Gatsby throws another extravangant party and dances with Daisy. People drink too much champagne and pass out.
SCENE FOUR: Tom and Daisy host an extravagant party. Everybody drinks champagne to excess. People dance the Charleston. Daisy shimmies down the banister. Nich catches her. They go out on the terrace and stare at Gatsby’s house in East Fried Egg; they see a silouhette in the window of Gatsby’s mansion. Daisy talks about her past and weeps. Tom appears and asks her what’s wrong. Daisy says she wishes she had more money. Tom comforts her by saying his broker told him they will have more money next year. He brings her back to the party and passes out in her arms.
SCENE FIVE: Gatsby shows up at the Buchanan’s and takes Daisy for a ride in his limousine. They drink champagne and talk about the past. Daisy weeps. Gatsby asks her what’s wrong and she tells him she wishes Tom had more money. Gatsby stops the limo. They go to lunch in Manhattan and Gatsby invites everyone in the restaurant to his house for a party. They finish their lunch and get back into the limo where they both pass out.
SCENE SIX: An extravagant party at Gatsby mansion. Everybody drinks too much champagne. Daisy passes out and Gatsby carries her upstairs to the guest room. Tom and Nick go looking for her. They find her and everybody comes up to her room where they continue the extravagant party until Daisy passes out again. Other people pass out and everybody else leaves. Tom carries Daisy outside. Gatsby goes looking for her and finds Nick. He and Nick walk along the shore and Gatsby tells Nick about his past. Gatsby weeps. He tells Nick he wishes he had more money. They sit down on a bench and Gatsby passes out with his head in Nick’s lap.
SCENE SEVEN: Gatsby and Daisy go for a ride in his limo. Gatsby lets Daisy drive. Daisy has been drinking too much champagne and she hits and kills a crossing guard. They flee the scene. After a frantic drive of 10 minutes Daisy pulls the limo into a driveway and she and Gatsby pass out. The driveway happens to belong to the home of a former silent film star. She appears in a window of her dilapidated mansion, looks at the limo and says “Oh, no. Not again!” Then she passes out.
OPTIONAL CLOSING SEQUENCE: An extravagant party. Tom and Nick are searching for Daisy but can’t find her. Tom drinks too much champagne and passes out. Nick delivers the closing monologue in which he says he is going back to the Midwest where no one ever passes out unless they are struck by a heavy blow to the head.
