Is it remotely possible that American children could ever organize a rebellion against the commercialization of Christmas? A sort of Occupy the Mall? That's the theme of my children's book, Regina Saves Christmas. I realize it's a fantasy, but imagine the possible results of such a rebellion . . . The children rise up and take action to prevent their parents from buying too much . . . they declare that they don't want any more presents and will burn them if given . . . that all they really want is to spend more quality time together as a family . . . It's a nice fantasy, one that is especially suitable for Black Friday, but I'm afraid the retail-merchandising machine is too huge and powerful to ever let that happen.
