You may be familiar with teacher, educator, and writer, John Amos Comenius (also known as the father of modern education and one of the earliest champions of universal education) who once asked three principal questions that have been instilled in my psyche for a very long time: "Who Am I? Am I All That I say That I Am? Am I all that I can be?" As time progressed my answers to these three questions have changed. Perhaps for you, if you're like me, then your answers may have improved and/or declined as you have traveled through life.
So who are you? Typically when asked most people will usually refer to their employment. "I am a teacher. I am an author. I am a truck driver; a sales rep; a nurse", etc. The second most popular answer may be associated with your parental/relationship status. "I am a wife and mother of three children (then end with their sex and ages). Or you say that you are a divorced father with children by two mothers. "I am a grandfather/grandmother who recently retired after working in a factory for 35 years.
Many of us haven't the slightest clue of who we really are. We have been so conditioned by labels that we have forgotten the essence of the real person we once were. From birth until now you have been described by your particular status in life, and very seldom has anyone taught or reaffirmed your true nature. At your birth the doctors announced... "it's a girl/boy". Once placed in your mother's arm you became her baby... her child. As you aged you became an elementary student and finally a high school graduate. You finished college and then became an employee, a spouse, and before long you became a parent and started the "cycle of your life" all over again.
However, through all of these changes and phases of maturity did you ever discover who you really are? You have searched for an answer to this question at church, in school, and through books and other media outlets. Society, politicians, television and many other social channels have tried to reinforce their belief of who you are into your thinking. The media may have convinced you of how you should look, feel, behave, and what your life should look like. Although you have complied with the mass' wish for your life, you have yet to find peace with their choices for you.
So who are you? I pray that my answer will enlighten you to seek the truth of who you are for yourself and not looking for someone else to give you the answer.
It is my belief that you are a spiritual being who's having a natural (life) experience. You have been born into this world to be a personification of the L.I.F.E. (living in fullness everyday) that dwells within you. Science refers to you as a Human Being! I prefer you be recognized as a Human Doing... a spiritual person DOING what is necessary to personify the gifts and talents that you are spiritually impregnated with.
The reason I choose the word personify is because your gifts and talents (once manifested) will take on a life of its own, and the rest of society will benefit from it. Just like the Word of God, in the beginning of your life were your talents, and your talents were with you, and you were your talents. As time progresses your talents will become flesh and live among us.
All of creation is yearning for the manifestation of your dreams and aspirations. You can be as the one with 5 talents who multiplied them to ten; or the one with 2 that multiplied his talents as well; or the person with one talent that decided to bury his instead. The one who buried his talent was cursed because you reap what is sown. Anything alive that's buried will eventually die. As your harvest comes forth so does more seeds. These seeds are to be used to bless all of creation.
So are you all that you say that you are? And are you all that you can be? If not, visit my blog on Wednesday as I share with you tips to become the person that you have always wanted to be, and how to fully express yourself to the absolute max.
