Have you ever felt like you have done everything to accomplish a goal and it still feels like the finish line is far off? You put in the time; put in the effort; followed all the rules, yet it seems that everything you have done was in vain. You look out and see that the other people who have matched your effort are succeeding and you’re not. So you decide to throw in the towel…you claim “this just isn’t for me”. Here’s some good news: for you, failure is not an option…therefore your success is inevitable.
There is a universal principal that teaches you reap what you’ve sown. This truth precept is factual because it is impossible to plant a seed, water and nurture it, and then nothing happens. Or perhaps this adage isn’t true. Is it possible to plant, water and nurture a seed and nothing happens? Absolutely.
Prior to becoming an author and Life Coach I managed an Insurance Agency. My agency, overall, was very profitable because I learned (the hard way) to duplicate the parent company’s model. However, there were times when my agency wasn’t successful and was on the brink of bankruptcy. The cause was that me and the agents who worked for me had deviated from a proven system and decided to do things my way.
I allowed myself to become distracted by my zeal and earnest need for commissions to help stay afloat and provide income to support my family. The parent company’s model gave the impression that it would take 2-3 years to build a successful insurance agency through long hours and lots of hard work. But I had a different plan. My thoughts were that I would bring into the insurance industry the model I followed while working ten years as a Mortgage Banker. I was headstrong and thought that I knew it all. Some may say that my personality hasn’t changed much since those days. LOL!
I deviated from the master plan and failed miserably. Under the threat of having my agency stripped from me, I decided to humble myself and follow a proven model. And in doing so I my agency came back from the brink of disaster and placed consistently as one of the top ten agencies for that company in the country.
So what changed? Was it the hard work that granted my success? Was it because I followed directions and did EVERYTHING without straying that made my company profitable? Absolutely. But there was also something else that complimented these changes that helped me to turn my business around? Persistence!
Here’s how you can become persistent in taking action to fulfill your dreams even when it seems that failure is lurking on the horizon. Identify your WHYs, pinpoint your intentions, and define how your success will benefit others.
Identify your WHYs:
Make a list of 10 compelling reasons why you MUST achieve your goal. This cannot be a list of why you want to accomplish your goal…your reasons should be why you absolutely HAVE to successfully carry out this task come hell or high water.
Pinpoint your intentions:
You’ve identified your WHYS…your compelling reasons for achieving your goal. Now you have to discover your intentions behind your WHYs. The why is your motivation to fulfill your dream, but your intentions will be your inspiration to keep pressing toward the finish line even when doing so becomes very difficult. Your intention is the aim, the purpose. Your intention is the reason behind the WHY for going after your goal.
Example: I recently lost 42lbs of excess fat in 89 days. My WHY for the weight loss was to avoid health challenges as I age, but my reason for modifying my diet and training so aggressively at the gym was because I was sick and tired of being sick and tired of being fat and out of shape.
Define how your success will benefit others:
It has been proven that most people will do more for others than they will for themselves. You can probably relate to this and agree. Many of us work jobs that we hate because our families will benefit from the income we earn. When a friend or family member is having a personal crisis we are usually there to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. Even in times of national disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, etc) people will come from miles around to serve help to those in need.
Spend some alone time for the next few days and search your heart and soul to discern how the fulfillment of your dream will bless the rest of humanity. When our goals are driven by compassion for others, pursuing this task during the hard times becomes easier.
For many, there is no easy way to spring forth the harvest we see in our imagination at the onset of chasing a dream, but the reward for your persistence at the finish line will outweigh everything you ever fantasized it would be.
DreamBIG, plan, get excited, and take action NOW…for the world is waiting to cheer your success!
