For the past four years I’ve been working on a series called A Show for the Gods. A fantasy fiction story. It started as faux newspaper article for a friend’s website. Having never written anything since high school I found the premise of the article intriguing enough to expand on it, centralizing the story around the only character featured, a healer named Danika Del Ray. A chose a point in her life, a moment proceeding a major battle and followed her journey for another 300 pages. Soon, the short story grew to novel length, then two novels. Dark Heart became the first, Return of the Diviner the second.
The original series title was Apotheosis, or the exaltation of a subject to a divine level. After I completed Shadowfall I realized this story was much more than Danika’s exhalation. Her friends shared the same fate as she did. Cenna and Jamen and her new found love Captain Salbador. Her older sister Kiruna, her mentor, Hurin. Danika remains the focal point, but she cannot win this battle alone. She needs her friends as desperately as they need her.
For me, the storyline of A Show for the Gods blooms when the camaraderie of friendship is put to the test by the harrowing obstacles they must face together. I look at A Show for the Godsas the first installment of a continuing series of adventures involving these wonderful, dynamic personalties that sprouted from out of nowhere and have taken on a life all their own.
