Born in Ohio but raised in Belgium I was exposed to different languages. Now being in Red Room I am thrilled. I started writing for publications in English around 1991. In Dutch I had been writing forever. It is only when coming to San Francisco in1211 to meet with some poets and reading some of my poems in English for the first time to an American audience that I realized how important this all was to me. I met wonderful people like devorah major, Clara Hsu, Bill Mercer, Neeli Cherkovski and many more. Of these people I have translated a few poems into Dutch while translating German, French, Dutch and Flemish poets into English. I also wrote a non-fiction book ‘Wevers tussen twee werelden’ an account of encounters with Navajo and Hopi. Published by ‘Kramat’ in Belgium. Followed in English by a history of Chloride, Arizona where I spend all my free time since 1991. The desert and town inspired me to write very brief short stories.
A poem about the foothills of the Cerbats from my bilingual book of poetry Traces/Sporen World internet books.
All is given
by water & wind
ice & fire
now till in the greyest hour
always all is in its place
perfect unruliness
battered
predestined in
the movement of time
coincidence
just as I
