Walking along the shore,
wet sand squishes between my toes
as the sea rolls in and coils around my ankles.
I spy a flash of white, buried beneath the dark brown sand.
Carefully I lift a sand dollar from the beach.
Placing it in my palm I marvel at its perfection.
How did it make its way to the shore intact?
Delicate and fragile its looks are deceiving:
Tossed and tumbled, battered by the strong surf,
the sand dollar maintains its beauty with a humble grace~
a life lesson indeed.
