Ever since I was a little girl, the start of the school year was my new beginning.
I loved shopping for new school supplies. Sharp pencils, a new box of crayons, and a shiny lunchbox. Along with the new supplies came a fresh set of resolutions: to study harder, to try something new, or be open to new friendships.
I've never lost the habit of preparing for the new school year. I return to my classroom next week, and for the first time in years, I'm rested and ready to return. I've had a wonderful and relaxing summer. Now I need to keep all of the good mojo going when my feet hit the ground.
This summer I learned that my creativity must be nurtured, and protected if I am to maintain inner balance. My resolutions for the new school year include:
- Do not allow work to occupy all of the free space in my mind.
- Be open to all experiences- positive and negative. I can learn, and write, about both.
- Write everyday, even if it's just a few lines in my journal. Many of my short musings and ideas often turn into poems and blog posts.
- Choose happiness. Each and every day.
