RTÉ has published the working document review of The Frontline Presidential debate. The BAI had called for the working document to be published.
The review team concluded that there were unclear lines of responsibility between the Executive Producer and the Editor of Current Affairs, including over who had final responsibility for editorial oversight and compliance.
It says the need for a senior editorial figure to “stand back” and watch the programme is clear.
It also states that social media comments by an Assistant Producer were very unwise, and should not have been sent. However, it says they did not indicate a political bias.
It was “noted with concern” that the production team member was entirely unaware of RTÉ News Social Media Guidelines.
BAI welcomed the publication of the working document, and confirmed that it had written to RTÉ today in relation to that document.
