Ireland by Annette Dunlea
Ireland is an island on the Atlantic Ocean,
Freed from English domination independence was a promotion,
Rejoice at last thirty two counties united as the war ceased,
One island one nation in perfect peace.
It is divided into four sections,
The provinces of Ulster, Munster, Leinster and Connacht are the counties in collections,
Its famous for its rich green fields, botanical gardens and indigenous trees,
Stories of its history, archaeology, folklore and mythology are told at home and overseas.
It boasts of a friendly nation and its warm welcome,
Its hosts many festivals like Lisdonvarna and The Rose of Tralee and famous they have become,
The homeland of Kavanagh, Synge, Yeats and Joyce but to death they have succumb,
Still of late it produced Maeve Binchy, Cecilia Ahern, Seamus Heaney, these new writers soon forever famous will become.
Its government is democracy and the Euro is its currency,
It tolerates all religions but Catholicism is practiced by the majority,
Its capital is Dublin and its pace is relaxed,
These are Ireland’s facts.
