I am the author of A Skeptic’s Guide to Writers’ Houses, which has been hailed as “a remarkable book: part travelogue, part rant, part memoir, part literary analysis and urban history.” I have written for the New York TimesMother Jones, theBeliever, the American ProspectDwell, the Oxford American, and the Chronicle of Higher Education among other publications. My article “Handwriting Is History,” was chosen to be anthologized in The Best Technology Writing 2010. I have published dozens of book reviews for Daily Beast, Barnes & Noble Review, Salon, AARP.  I am Associate Professor at Oberlin College.

I am also a freelance editor happy to work with non-fiction writers.
