September first. Usually this time of year I am on my way to Grand Cayman for one final week of summer. These trips are with girlfriends and without (other people's) children, who are back at school with their parents. Only thing is, lately, I've had a tendency to relapse on booze and pain pills, then attempt suicide...like drowning myself in the ocean. Nope there won't be any teal tides for me this year....I must say my behavior as of late (sober) is much more predictable and not so dramatic. Back on topic, we are en route to Salina, Kansas to visit my mother-in-law. We travel in comfort....no bedbugs for us. No sir. Plus we have our cat (Kitty) and dog (Leroy) with us. So we are driving our 40-foot Country Coach west on I-40 (aka Route 66) towards Texas. Oh, did I mention we are also visiting the grandchildren. Not so much mine, but kinda. (Later Update: We are now in Amarillo, Texas and it is WINDY!!!) Final Update: We've arrived in Salina and it's rainy.Being from Colorado and living in Kentucky and Missouri I'm accustomed to extraordinary fall foliage. We currently reside in Sedona, Arizona which is always colorful. I've come to look forward to these road trips across country. With recent precipitation, the wild flowers in northeastern Arizona and New Mexico are eye candy. Forget summer! THIS is my FAVORITE time of the year (next to Christmas-time, that is). Some of us, that meaning me, define ourselves with the seasons. Personally, I accomplish this fete with festive decorations plus I wear seasonal clothing. Yep! I'm the one with the cute Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin tee shirt and other oddities. Call me the geek of the week, if you like. However, it occupies my time and takes me back to adolescence which are happy memories, by the way. I'm not one of those recovering types who had a terrible childhood. I'm your just your average, selfish, self-centered, egotistical, narcissistic addict/alcoholic.So....Good-bye summer. I'm delighted to show you to the door. Hello Halloween !!!
