Andrew D Wice's Biography
Member Info
I was born Andrew David Wice in 1974 to two Political Science professors in Pittsburgh, PA. I learned to walk in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was raised in New Jersey and Washington, D.C. In the spring of 1991, during the first Gulf War, I served as a page in the United States Senate.
I graduated from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) in 1996 with Honors in English for my first novel, After Bells Had Rung and Were Silent.
After college I began my peregrinations around the country. I have lived, written novels and tended bar at a ranch in the Colorado Rockies, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Key West, New Smyrna Beach (FL), NYC again, Sedona (AZ), Iceland, and currently Madrid (NM).
For many fine years, I traveled in the company of a handsome border collie named Sora. He was named for a Japanese poet. He was a good dog, and remains responsible for finding my present home: Madrid, New Mexico. First a coal-mining and later ghost town, it is a tiny island of artists and freaks located south of Santa Fe in the high desert mountains. For many years I was the music manager and bartender of the legendary Mineshaft Tavern.
I currently work at the Hollar Restaurant, serving great food and drinks in an atmosphere of atonal aptitude.
In 2007, while my novel To The Last Drop was being rejected by fools, I defiantly began working on my seventh novel, The Object. In December, my father Dr. Paul Wice received a heart transplant which added two beautiful years to his life. When TLD was accepted for publication by the intelligent editors at Bauu Institute Press, I dropped all concern with my book-in-progress and launched myself into editing, marketing, promoting and distributing my debut.
As my promotional whirlwind for TLD slowed down and I returned to the Object again, my father's deteriorating health and eventual passing forced me to return to his home with my siblings. After settling the estate, I started again on the Object in June of 2010.
With the book three-quarters completed, I made a 5-week journey through autumnal Europe to write and gather raw material for the novel's conclusion. I am now working on the book's final draft before submission.
Upcoming Works
The Object: A Love Story
This novel is about one woman's life, told entirely from the perspectives of the people around her. Some points-of-view are as intimate as that of a lover or parent, others are as tangential as that of a telemarketer or houseplant. These perspectives from a portrait in mosaic, revealing her in the negative space of their expectations, contradictions and omissions.
