Lima sat as still as she could in the quarantine zone, attached to a panel via a ZG cord. Her heart was beating so hard that she would slowly bob backwards, until the cord went taut, springing her forward gently.
"Sarvas, L. Please. move. to. the. edge. of. the. zone." one of the Drones said, in the careful speech of someone with a vocal implant. Enunciating each word.
Lima slowly unhooked her ZG cord and stood straight. Her legs tingled for a moment after being crossed for too long. Her grav boots made a "snick" noise as she touched onto the panels below and she walked to the red line.
"Please. place. your. appendage. on. the. appropriate. panel. and. state. your. name. and. social. rank. and. current. residence." the Drone motioned towards the pods sliding up out of the panel-floor.
Lima carefully checked the icons for Human and placed her right hand, palm down, on the bulb. "I am Lima Sarvas. Human Attendant Pilot. Ship K65JG Sweet Dreamer."
There was a warmth and a tingle on her palm and the bulb flashed the orange Wait signal. Lima removed her hand. She could feel a sneeze coming on, and that would be so bad here in the quarantine zone. She was not sick, but she got a tickle in her nose when she was nervous and dehydrated. Right now she was both of those.
She tried not to wiggle her nose or to fidget too much. She kept a careful eye on the black mask of the nearest Drone.
She blew air out through her nose to try and stop the sneeze from creeping any further.
The scanning bulb stopped flashing and she held her breath for a moment while it cycled. Green. She was through.
After 5 days in this little padded hell, she could finally go out into the fresh air of Aroon and see the lakes and the forests again. 14 years she'd been gone. Most of those on the Dreamer with Klan and the rest of the crew. Like family, but not quite.
A year ago she'd felt the pull home begin, and she'd started making plans and talking to the Captain about heading on a shipping lane that could possibly get near Aroon in the Avnar system. The Captain was very kind about it. He seemed to understand the longing for home she had. He did his best and got her as close as they could, with the Dreamer.
She hopped a few transports and ended up at Aroon's space dock and the long wait in quarantine. Aroon was still a "clean" planet, so the laws were very strict. Her bags were scanned repeatedly, at random intervals. She was given base gear to wear, while her clothes were carefully decontaminated repeatedly and she was sent through sonic and gas decontamination pods about 7 times in the 5 days she was at the space dock.
But now that was all done, and she could walk those last few panels to the shuttles to the surface.
