At GlobalNiche we believe social media is about using technology to communicate naturally. In case you haven't seen it, don't miss this video of Tara talking to you about how to use social media so it feels like you.

We've been saying this for years. Given some recent headlines, here's a recap about what we think social media-is-not.
It's not going to rescue you if you're a small business owner expecting a flood of business....unless you use it to listen to what people want....unless you view social media as a great way to extend your physical operations and your authentic personality online.
It's not going to ruin you professionally if you approach it with your own industry's restrictions in mind. As someone said to me today, "if you're afraid people might mistake your opinion in a blog comment for professional advice, add a disclaimer in your signature."
It's not going to stop when tragedy strikes even if some people wish it would. Social media is highly customizable. That means we can unfollow or otherwise remove from our timeline anyone who posts in a fashion we don't care for today or any day. This is a global, always-on medium. Things are happening everywhere all the time. How we behave online may or may not correlate to things on the ground where someone else is, or isn't -- or even where we happen to be. What and how we share through social media may be judged based on events happening on- or offline whether we are aware of them or not. When times get tough, we'll want to know we made our choices, whatever they are, as consciously as possible.
What do you think? Can you add anything else social media-is-not?
