Writers With Drinks 11th Anniversary

Writers With Drinks celebrates 11 years of spoken word variety with one of our coolest line-ups. One of these writers is secretly a cybernetic kangaroo -- can you figure out which one before you get hit with kangaroo-nanites?

How much: $5 to $10 sliding scale, all proceeds benefit the CSC.

About the readers/performers:

Amber Benson co-wrote and directed the animated web-series, Ghosts of Albion, (with Christopher Golden) for the BBC. The duo then novelized the series in two books for Random House. Her first solo novel, Death's Daughter, was published by Penguin in 2009, and three sequels featuring Calliope Reaper-Jones have since been published. She also wrote a children's book called Among The Ghosts. As an actress, Benson spent three seasons as Tara Maclay on the cult show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She has also written, produced, and directed three feature films, including Drones, which she co-directed with Adam Busch.

Glen David Gold received his MFA for creative writing at the University of California at Irvine. His first novel, Carter Beats the Devil, has been translated into fourteen languages. His short stories and essays have appeared in McSweeney’s, Playboy, and The New York Times Magazine. He lives in San Francisco with his wife, Alice Sebold.

Rachel Kramer Bussel is a New York-based writer, editor, blogger, and event organizer. She's edited over 40 anthologies, including Best Sex Writing 2012, Women in Lust, Fast Girls, Obsessed: Erotic Romance for Women, The Mile High Club, Do Not Disturb: Hotel Sex Stories, and her own fiction has been published in over 100 collections, including Best American Erotica 2004 and 2006. She writes a biweekly sex column for SexIs Magazine and has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show and The Gayle King Show.

Malinda Lo’s first novel, Ash, a retelling of Cinderella with a lesbian twist, was a finalist for the William C. Morris YA Debut Award, the Andre Norton Award for YA Fantasy and Science
Fiction, and the Lambda Literary Award. Her second novel, Huntress, a companion novel to Ash, is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. Her young adult science fiction duology, beginning with Adaptation, will be published in fall 2012.

Sarah Kuhn is the author of the geek romantic comedy novella One Con Glory, which has earned kudos from io9 and USA Today/Pop Candy and is currently in development as a feature film. Her work has appeared in such fine publications as Back Stage, Geek Monthly, IGN.com, The Hollywood Reporter, StarTrek.com, Creative Screenwriting, and The Oakland Tribune. She was also featured on San Diego Comic-Con’s popular “Geek Girls Exist” panel in 2010.

Writers With Drinks won "Best Literary Night" from the SF Bay Guardian readers' poll six years in a row and was named "Best Literary Drinking" by the SF Weekly. And it was namechecked in Armistead Maupin's latest Tales of the City novel. The spoken word "variety show" mixes genres to raise money for local worthy causes. The award-winning show includes poetry, stand-up comedy, science fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery, literary fiction, erotica, memoir, zines and blogs in a freewheeling format.
