Allan's Poem of the Week: "Basket"

Basket

I heard myself ruminating,
Life is such a-
and hesitated, not long,
before finishing . . . basket,
not knowing why this is
the image that came forth.
The basket I conceive
is a loose wood weave,
natural colored strips,
its arching handle
tight and firm so it can
be carried though full,
medium-size so that
it hangs easily at my side.
Its stored objects
at present, small, dry,
plenteous and light.
Not the image I would draw
if assigned, but the image
nonetheless.
