Book Note: Good Poems
Here's a book for you poetry buffs. It's stuffed with, well, as the title says, good poems. The variety is astounding, too, and comes from writers you've heard of all your life and those you haven't who are just as good. It's broken into themed categories that take the reader along nicely. This book was recommended to me just over a year ago by a friend who's an established poet and magazine editor of poetry. Boy, did she steer me right. At a poem a day, I'm about two-thirds of the way through, much richer in heart. In addition to this great collection, for my money, Garrison Keillor's introduction is worth the price of admission. He will wake you up and split your sides with a new conception of what constitutes great poetry.
