I just finished reading an article on the VA and how they approved $24M in bonuses:
I find this very disturbing and I feel angry, upset, and like I just want to flip them off for this. I'm not saying bonuses are bad, in fact I like bonuses because they add that little extra cash to your pocket that you could spend on that vacation you really want to take, or that new toy for your kid, or to pay that bill you want to get rid of. Bonuses are good because they relfect how great a company or organization is doing but not so when it comes to the VA. In fact, the VA is the by far the biggest joke of a government program I have ever seened-firsthand! If you ever walk into a VA hopsital, they have the most ignoramous people working there, the most unintellagent people handling your medical files, and it can take over a month to get seen by your doctor! WTF!
Disability benefits are a whole 'nother monster when it comes to the VA! I've seen people be denied for years for any kind of disabilty benefit. For example, my significant other is a veteran who has fought in both Afganistan and Iraq as an Army Ranger for 4 years. He's had his knee blown out twice, constant ringing in his ears, and PTSD . It took him 3 years to get his disability re-instated (long story). The first time they said they didn't have the paperwork but the bastards lost it! The second time they gave him a rating but denied his claim for back pay which if they check their records,it would be there. So instead, he's had to talk to his congressman twice and luckely met another veteran who knew the ropes of their operation to help him out. So as of now, he is still waiting on the back pay which he is suppose to find out about next month and is still fighting for a better rating. I know what you're thinking: That is stupid, if he has Army medical records and has been seen by VA doctors and the paper trail is there that supports his claims, shouldn't he get what is rightfully his????
The VA is a circus act and in order to get anything from them, you have to jump through their hoops, wait for various appointments they set up for you that could take months to get, and keep filling out paperwork in hopes that someone doesn't throw it away later thinking it's just trash on their desk. One VA official says to do one thing and then another VA official contridicts those instructions with new instructions in hopes of discouraging the Vet who is looking for help from the Country he has defended and almost died for. Too much has been wrong with the VA for too long and it sickens me to hear old Veterans talk about denied benefits, denied healthcare, and how long they've been waiting just to start the paper trail that ends up in the trash bin of the VA.The only way I see fixing this is for the VA officials to start doing their job which is to take care of the Veterans that they are suppose to be servicing! That means, take care of them first and your bonuses later!
