Alice Randall was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Washington, D.C. Shortly after graduating from Harvard College in 1981 she moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she established herself as a country songwriter and then a novelist. She is currently writer-in-residence at Vanderbilt University. She lives in Hillsboro Village, near Vanderbilt, with her husband David Ewing.
