Went to Jalousie Beach today - it appears to be a facsimile of Germany in the late 1920's - rampant hyper-inflation - when you go in, a cup of coffee costs the equivalent of 3 dollars, and by the time you drink it, it's four hundred and thirty five thousand dollars and change. We're talking a fourteen-dollar hot dog here - fourteen dollars! - I hope those fuckers die in a pit of molten gold and hot dogs. When we were waiting for a ride, a bunch of guys were having a heated discussion about the Lion of Judea vs. Jesus - you know - "my God can beat up your God" - it was like a bloody revival meeting. I quoted Ecclesiasticus(no such book or verse) 17:23(or 16:23 if it's Friday - they finish early) at them - "Yea, though thy gums be gnashed and sore afraid, yet still will the bounty of being a downtrodden, brainwashed peon fall upon you - even while I am shaving the 18% gratuity from your table and taking your first-born virgins as ROI enhancement offerings on my portfolio..." They seemed somewhat unconvinced...
Watched the fishermen pull the nets in on the beach tonight - simultaneously picturesque and picaresque - and tres lentement, as they say in these parts. The sky leaked all of its light before they got it in, so I couldn't see the catch - but it was a beautiful scene. The people here are somewhat reserved - they either look away, or look you right in the eye, which I really like - then they say hello. Re-connected with our good-guy taxi-driver Augustus today - that guy is as solid as a rock, a decent guy, he really is - it was really nice to see him again.
I have been trapped on Holodeck 1 for the past three days, playing a bit-part in a Goodyear tire advertisement. I can't begin to tell you what saying "it has the kind of tread that resists water penetration" does to a Thespian of my stature. If it weren't for the residuals, I think I would go insane, I really do. The last time I felt this compromised was when I did a voice-over for hard-on pills - and it was during a very limp period in my life. Number two is probably saying "make it so, baldy" even as we speak - it doesn't bear thinking about, it really doesn't. Oh, Christ, I refuse to ruminate on the grade of rubber they use - there -- are -- four -- tires - I mean lights.....
