Spent the evening wrestling with Zeno's arrow paradox, in which he states that for motion to be occurring, an object must change the position which it occupies - he gives an example of an arrow in flight, and states that in any one instant of time, for the arrow to be moving it must either move to where it is, or it must move to where it is not. It cannot move to where it is not, because this is a single instant, and it cannot move to where it is because it is already there. In other words, in any instant of time there is no motion occurring, because an instant is a snapshot. Therefore, if it cannot move in a single instant it cannot move in any instant, making any motion impossible.

If everything when it occupies an equal space is at rest, and if that which is in locomotion is always occupying such a space at any moment, the flying arrow is therefore motionless.

Aristotle

I tested this theory in a Holodeck program I created - I was the archer, and number two was the "giftee", for want of a better tem, of my various attempts at bowmanship. The theory was proven to have a fatal flaw, however, on no less than twenty-seven consecutive occasions - despite the philisophical entreaties of both Aristotle and Zeno, number two ended up with an arrow in one part or other of his body(usually the head - an unfortunate coincidence, I assured him - he was merely a facsimile, you understand - but still, dying that many times is no fun, even for a a pixie..)

Tomorrow I intend to run my program testing out the old Bulwer-Lytton adage "The pen is mightier than the sword"(yes, I thought it was Shakespeare, too) - Pixellated number two is protesting, but I told him he could have any pen of his choosing - I don't see what his problem is - my sword is very modest, by most standards.....

Jeeziz, does this guy never shut up? It's worse than listening to old Spencer rattle me about my failing grades - and I bet he's a secret slob, just like old Ackley - probably one of those guys who thinks you're some kind of flit unless he breaks around forty of your fingers with a handshake - very big deal. This stuff just kills me, if you want to know the truth of it - I'm not kidding....
