Day 206: Macresarf1 Year of the Apocalypse 2012 -- VITO and "Dr. Doom"

We spent the day on practical matters.

Son Guy and I worked on activating one of the debit cards, and after two tries, made it work.

Guy went shopping and brought home cheese, salami, yogurt, wine, and other goodies.

Paul of the Red Cross called to tell us that our residential hotel deal was being finalized, and that we might stay on here for a couple of days until details were wrapped up.

In the evening, we watched an interesting documentary, VITO, about a hero of the Gay/Lesbian Civil Rights Movement.  He was a man of great courage, a film buff who wrote The Celluloid Closet, later made into a film of the same name.  He later went on to fight the Reagan Administration neglect of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic of the 1980's.

Later, we watched Piers Morgan conduct a furious debate over guns in America in the wake of the Batman Movie Massacre.  Earlier, he had shown footage of a disoriented James Holmes, his hair dyed red, being arraigned in Aurora, Colorado. It is said that a prisoner saw him defiant, spitting on his guards, which led to a speculation that he had been sedated before being brought into court.

SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE: Economist Nouriel Roubini, popularly known as Doctor Doom for his prediction of the 2008 financial collapse, has reiterated his view that tax increases and slashing  of the Federal Budget will bring about another financial disaster for the United States. A combination of  the European debt crisis, China’s slowing growth, and a war in the Middle East could exacerbate this situation to the point of  destruction for the civilized world.

  Pleasant dreams, 99%!

Macresarf1 would write no more this day.
