Woke at 8 p.m, woke at 10 p.m., woke at noon! What a life!
But I wish that my energy was such that I had leapt up at eight. All sorts of opportunities presented themselves.
For indeed, the day was packed with interesting news and propositions on the Internet.
A bright spot was the confirmation that Ron Barber, Representative Gabrielle Gifford's longtime assistant, had won her Arizona Congressional seat after she stepped aside. Hopefully, he will be able to carry on for after her random and grievous maiming by a disturbed young man. And perhaps the most interesting proposition came from a site which is encouraging people Worldwide to take part the Rio + 20 Conference on Climate Change, opening today. The site presents issues and solutions for our consideration, and gives us a voice. "Rio +20 Dialogues: VOTE FOR THE FUTURE YOU WANT." The site's URL is as follows:
Recommended -- If we do not fix our Worldwide Climate right away, we and our children and their children shall live in misery
Somehow connected with the Rio + 20 Conference, in my mind, was the Senate Finance Committee's interview with J.P. Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon. Dressed impeccably in a suit which no doubt cost several thousand dollars (appointed perfectly with a splendid tie), Jamie Dimon spent most of his time bemused, and spoke in a relaxed buttered voice about "The London Whale," which lost his firm several billion dollars. A few Senators asked intelligent questions, and one or two offered incisive ones, but most of them, especially the Republicans, practically grovelled. After all J.P. Morgan is worth trillions.
TURNER CLASSIC MOVIE FILM UNION was heard from for the first time in a long while. A member wanted to be my friend, and after looking over her interests, I let her in, along with a pal.
These were only a few of the new opportunities and interests offered me.
SIGN OF THE APOCALYPSE: While all the major news media covered CEO Dimon's remarks to the Senate, the Jerry Sandusky Case, and the latest political spats between Presiden Obama and Governor Romney, not one that I came across devoted time to the Rio+20 Conference, which will dominate the news in many other countries for the next week.
