The Eve of Martin Luther King Day!
The nights began to turn cold, and friends near and far were in discomfort and danger. May the Healand Spirits look over them.
The political news of the day was that Jon Huntsman, the most reasonable, competent, of the Republican Candidates, announced that he would be dropping out of the 2012 Race for the Presidency, tomorrow. It would appear that we are going to be left with two disastrously out of touch contenders for our highest office at a time when we are as a nation more vulnerable than at any time since 1929.
The Golden Globes Awards was a dull affair. The women looked beautiful in their gowns, the men handsome, and Ricky Gervais as obnoxious as he was last year, perhaps more so, if a transcript of what was cut out of his patter is published. For the most part, the Movies showed a slithering descent into denial, and whatever was interesting fell into the TV Series category. Certainly, the most deserving awards went to HOMELAND, one of the few major efforts in Movies or TV to deal with the sinister ironies and complications of "the war on terror" at home.
Goodnight, Monkey Wrench, wherever you are.
