The first steam engine rolled through the khojak tunnel which was made on 14 April 1888.It is about 3.912 km and one of the longest tunnel in Pakistan. To reach Chaman , the train had pass through the khojak pass. So it was decided that a tunnel should be made and it was named the Khojak tunnel project.
The equipments and iron were brought from England. It was made by the army which came from India and other parts of the world. Many of them were welsh miners and the Arabs. Many died of pneumonia in winter and 400 were killed from typhoid.
The tunnel was stared at both sides but did not meet in the middle so the engineer attempted suicide. Soon the problem was corrected and a bell was installed in the middle of the tunnel.
