Russell Brand is a British stand-up comic, who built a platform for himself as a serial womaniser. I have followed his progress for years and still I am mystified as to what talent, if any, he possesses. He burst onto the scene after a brief flirtation with the model Kate Moss, adopting an image of some seedy 17th century lothario, with language to match. He gazzooks and fair damsels his way through the media, but his comic ability is zero. After an appallingly bad taste 'prank' phone call to an ageing actor, telling the eighty-year-old man that he had slept with his grand-daughter, Brand fled to the US. Hollywood bought into his sham and cast him in a few films. Not that his acting was a stretch, he played the roles as himself. As his fame seemed to fade, he latched onto Kate Perry and his star seems to be on the rise again.
Am I so out of touch with popular culture that I fail to appreciate Brand's genius? Maybe somebody could help me out.
